2027 Jeep Wrangler: What Changed, What Stayed, and What It Costs

From DeKalb County back roads to weekends farther afield, the Wrangler is still the Jeep built to lose its doors and its roof.

The 2027 Jeep Wrangler keeps the fourth-generation JL body that debuted for 2018 and reshuffles the lineup around it. The 4xe plug-in hybrid is gone, the 6.4L HEMI V8 stays on two 392 models, and Jeep's yearlong Twelve 4 Twelve series of limited editions ends with the Switchback. (The prices and details below reflect what Jeep and dealer order guides had published in mid-October 2026; ask us to confirm the sticker on any specific Wrangler.) Here is what changed, what carried over, and what each trim costs.

The biggest change is what disappeared. Jeep discontinued the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid, so every 2027 Wrangler runs on gas, and a planned turbo-hybrid update for 2027 was cancelled. The 6.4L HEMI V8 went the other direction: it stays on the Willys 392 and Moab 392, both rated at 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

The special editions changed too. The 85th Anniversary Edition and Willys 41 were 2026 specialties, while 2027 brings the Sarge, Laredo, Smoky Mountain, JL-2A, and Switchback (details below). Dealer research guides also report added standard equipment on some trims, including navigation, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel on the Sahara and Rubicon, plus proximity keyless entry on the Sport, Sport S, and Willys. Check the window sticker on any Wrangler you are considering, since reports on equipment vary by source.

Everything underneath carries over. The Wrangler stays on the JL platform with its removable doors and roof, the 3.6L Pentastar V6 and 2.0L turbo four return with the same outputs, the transmissions and 4x4 systems carry over, and the 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto carries over too.

Prices below include the $1,995 destination charge. The two-door Wrangler Sport starts at $38,630, and the four-door Sport starts at $41,635. The Rubicon starts at $48,705 as a two-door and $53,130 as a four-door, and the four-door-only Sahara starts at $53,405. At the top, the Willys 392 starts at $71,990 and the Moab 392 at $81,990. The Switchback, based on the Rubicon X, adds a $2,870 package and is priced at $66,695 as a two-door and $69,995 as a four-door, with orders opening in November. Three gas engines cover the lineup. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 makes 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and comes with a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic. The 2.0L turbo four makes 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, comes standard on the Sahara, and pairs with the 8-speed automatic. The 6.4L HEMI V8 makes 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque and powers the Willys 392 and Moab 392 with the 8-speed automatic. Fuel economy runs about 20/22/21 mpg (city/highway/combined) for the turbo four, 16/22/19 for the V6, and 13/16/14 for the V8.

Towing depends on the build. Two-door Wranglers are rated for up to 2,000 lbs and four-door Wranglers for 3,500 lbs, while a properly equipped four-door Rubicon reaches 5,000 lbs with the 8-speed automatic, the 4.10 axle, and 33-inch tires. The 392 models are rated for up to 3,500 lbs. Four-wheel-drive hardware steps up by trim: Command-Trac part-time 4x4 on the Sport, Sport S, and Willys; Selec-Trac full-time 4x4 on the Sahara; and Rock-Trac with front and rear locking differentials and 4:1 low range on the Rubicon and Rubicon X.

Jeep's Twelve 4 Twelve series released a limited-edition Wrangler almost every month, and five of them carry the 2027 model year. The Sarge (June) is a tribute to the 1941 Willys MB, built on the Rubicon and Willys with a star door graphic, a 1941 hood decal, '41 Green wheels, and a Cattle Tan and Drab Green interior. The Laredo (July) brings back a classic trim name with a Willys-based exterior, a Sahara-based interior, and the Xtreme 35 Package (35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 tires and a 1-inch factory lift). The Smoky Mountain (August) adds 33-inch all-terrain tires, a locking rear axle, steel rock rails, and 17-inch smoky black wheels. The JL-2A (September) takes its cues from the original Willys CJ-2A, and the Switchback (October) closes the series on the Rubicon X with contrasting hoods and doors and Gecko-colored accents. Quantities are limited, so ask us about availability.

Inside, the Wrangler carries over the 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and available integrated navigation. Available driver-assistance features include forward collision warning with active braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection, ParkSense rear park assist, and automatic high beams. Availability varies by trim.
